UNBOXED | Times Square Alliance

What if you were houseless in the future? How might you get there? What resources might you need in the future?

Background:
Unboxed is a speculative and discursive design project, with the aim of sparking critical conversations about houslessness in the present. Positioned as a boutique exterior design services firm, Unboxed offers consumers and spectators a number of products aimed at alleviating some of the difficulties that may exist for houseless people in the future. Set in Times Square, this project examines the environmental, political, technological, and social threats our houseless population may face in New York City and in the world at large. In order to build our brand, we assembled kits with tools and resources designed to address challenges posed by climate change, war, and surveillance technologies. By introducing these artifacts from speculative and considered futures to audiences in the present, we opened space for discussion about potential journeys to houselessness and paths forward.

How may you become houseless in the future? Are you prepared?
